Orlando first joined the British Council in 2001, at an exciting time when China had just joined the WTO and won the bid to host the 2008 Olympics in Beijing. Over the next few years he managed a variety of educational and arts exchange programs, linking schools through sports leadership, promoting examinations services, and connecting high profile UK visitors such as Professor Stephen Hawkings with talented young Chinese students. He then worked for the British Council in London with a focus on developing the creative industries sector in the Middle East and Baltic States.
From 2007 until 2015 Orlando was Senior Project Manager rising to Assistant Director at the Great Britain China Centre, an executive agency which works on behalf of the FCO and the EU to deliver legal reform and rule of law programs, leadership and political dialogues between the UK and China. In 2015 Orlando took up the post of Area Manager Wuhan, directing operations at the British Council’s newest China office.
Orlando enjoys the great outdoors, is a keen mountain runner and represented Great Britain in international mountain running competition from 2009-2014. He loves sailing, throwing pots and theatre.
