The British Council is delighted to announce the 2016 UK-China Education Policy Week, a week of education events in Beijing around the theme of excellence, employability and entrepreneurship. Representatives from the UK education sector are now invited to register for the events, which will be taking place from 13 to 20 March 2016.

Background

The UK-China Education Policy Week will follow-up on progress made at the 2015 UK-China People-to-People Dialogue and the 2015 UK-China Education Summit, and contribute to setting the education agenda for 2016 and the “Golden Era” of UK-China relations. The events will bring together education leaders from the UK and China to discuss top priorities and joint challenges in both countries, and to deepen collaboration and explore partnership opportunities in a range of areas, from transnational education, vocational education and student exchanges, to graduate employability and entrepreneurship.

Brief Introduction of Events 

UK-China Symposium on Innovation and Entrepreneurship Education, and Graduate Employability

Date: 15-16 March
Venue: Tsinghua University, Beijing
Chinese partners: National Center for Education Development Research, Tsinghua University

The objectives of this forum are to facilitate the exchange of policy initiatives and good practice between education leaders from the UK and China, with a view to identifying and finding solutions to common challenges in graduate employability. Through panel discussions and presentations, the forum will also consider the policy environment, systemic approaches, case studies, and recommendations for innovation and entrepreneurship education. Participants in the forum will include researchers, policy makers, business representatives, and leaders and senior practitioners from higher education institutions in both countries.

UK participants are also invited to submit case studies for consideration during the symposium, and to contribute their expertise to workshops taking place in the context of the symposium. UK-China Policy Dialogue on Technical and Vocational Education and Training

This Dialogue will discuss approaches to speeding up the internationalisation of Technical and Vocational Education and Training and promoting the development of high-quality colleges. It will bring together policy makers, college leaders, and representatives from skills councils in the UK and China to discuss how to build high-quality colleges through quality assurance and international collaboration, while working with industry to meet demands.

Workshop on Joint Quality Assurance for UK-China Transnational Education Programmes

Date: 18 March

Venue: Beijing Normal University
Chinese partner: China Education Association for International Exchange 

Delivering on the agreements at the 2015 UK-China Education Summit as detailed in the UK-China Partners in Education Framework, and in response to the policy advice from the Ministry of Education’s Division of Cross-Border Education Partnerships, this workshop will bring together leaders from prestigious education institutions in the UK and China to discuss how to improve quality assurance for UK-China joint programmes and institutes, and agree on an action plan for 2016.

Education UK Alumni Awards 2016

Participants in the UK-China Education Policy Week are also invited to attend the Education UK Alumni Awards 2016, which will honour the outstanding achievements of Chinese alumni of a UK education. An awards ceremony will be held on 19 March in Beijing, where the winners in three prize categories will be announced.

This will be a celebratory occasion for education experts to meet outstanding UK alumni in China and network with peers and key contacts in Beijing, as well as raise the profile of their own institutions and highlight the achievements of their alumni.
