In this workshop, we examine activities and strategies that teachers can use to engage learners and help them practice their English in live online classes, including at lower levels. We look at how to design motivating live online tasks, review key online teaching skills, and consider how to structure engaging online classes. You will leave this session with ideas you can try out in your own videoconference classes with your own learners.

This webinar aims to introduce the concept of Linguistic Landscapes (LL) and provide a pedagogical framework to assist teachers to incorporate LL into English language classrooms.

First, we consider some of the reasons for focusing on intercultural citizenship education (ICE) in primary ELT. Next, we explore why picturebooks have particular potential for sparking children’s empathy and social justice actions beyond the classroom walls. Then, the benefits for teachers of working collaboratively as an ‘International Community of Practice’ (ICoP) when creating primary ELT materials are outlined. Finally, some freely-downloadable teaching resources created by primary English teachers for primary English teachers, based on 18 picturebooks will be shared.
