New Directions in English Language Assessment is the British Council’s flagship language testing and assessment conference. Since its establishment in 2013, the conference has celebrated eight editions, providing perspectives and insight on trends and approaches in English language assessment at a local, regional, and international level. 

The language assessment industry, like all other sectors, has experienced significant disruption over the last year. There has been an acceleration in systemic change, innovation and the emergence of divisions in society relating to equality, accessibility and sustainability. 

With the theme of Fairer, Greener, Stronger: The Future of Language Assessment, this year’s conference will be held online on 10 and 11 December. It will bring together leaders to debate and discuss how language assessment stakeholders can respond to opportunities, innovate, and establish meaningful partnerships to overcome division and uncertainty. 

Participation options:

We provide two ways for participation:

  • Standard pass, which provides access to all sections in the conference
  • Complimentary pass, which provides access to all the accepted academic papers breakout sessions and a selection of Spotlight, Plenary, and Panel Discussion sessions
