The British Council is currently seeking experienced English teachers and teacher training experts to serve as Professional Development Consultants for TeachingEnglish, with the mission of assisting a larger number of Chinese English teachers in continuously utilising the professional development resources available on the "TeachingEnglish" platform. Successful applicants will be tasked with establishing and managing online teacher learning communities, leveraging existing master teacher studios or teacher networks. They will guide community members in participating in professional development activities on the TeachingEnglish platform, such as free MOOCs and webinars. Additionally, they will employ a tiered mentorship system ranging from one to five stars to foster a sustainable ecosystem for teacher self-organization and development, while also promoting regional exchanges in English language teaching both domestically and across Southeast Asia.

Our goal is to enhance the relevance of the resources on the TeachingEnglish platform to the professional development needs of Chinese English teachers, and to facilitate the translation of teaching practices through localized support, enabling teachers to apply their acquired knowledge and skills more effectively. In the long run, this project is committed to providing Chinese teachers with practical resources and expert knowledge to help them deliver high-quality English language teaching experiences to learners.

British Council will provide each selected CoP Leaders with a two-year service contract valued at RMB 40,000 to support  to in carrying out the following work:

  • Establish and maintain an online learning community for teachers, and encourage members to actively utilize resources on the TeachingEnglish platform;

  • Plan and carry out supportive activities such as MOOCs and webinars;

  • Cultivate community leaders and regional pioneers by employing a tiered framework of star-rated mentors;

  • Participate in regional offline exchange events organized by the British Council;

  • Submit regular work reports and project summaries as required.

In addition, outstanding consultants from previous phases will serve as "peer coaches," providing full guidance to newly appointed consultants in aspects such as community launch and the localized implementation of the star-rated mentor system.
