At an event in Hangzhou, teachers were asked to demonstrate a 50-minute lesson based on a unit from one of the course's textbooks, in front of an offline/online audience of 2000 teachers from around CHina. Students from a local middle school were used for the class demonstrations, and Jonathan Dixon was asked to observe the classes, and offer constructive feedback to the teachers afterwards. Jonathan was very impressed with the lessons he observed, in particular, how the lessons attempted to teach the skills and abilities needed to perform well in IELTS, and not simply asking students to answer questions from past test papers. He was also pleased that the teachers were incorporating aspects of formative assessment into the classroom, for example, encouraging students to evaluate their peers, as well as the use of rubrics to self-assess.
