The English is GREAT campaign was launched in Wuhan on 31 January 2018, in the presence of UK Prime Minister Theresa May, while on her official visit to China. Delivered by the British Council and its partners, the English is GREAT campaign is promoting English as a tool for China to interact with the wider world and supporting China’s national ambitions to boost spoken English proficiency.

The campaign throughout 2018 will support individuals in improving their language proficiency as a means to achieve their own professional and personal ambitions. This in turn will drive a confident and globally ready workforce, empowered by a strong command of English.

The English is GREAT Teacher Award is the latest activity of the campaign. The Award welcomes applications from all non-native English teachers of Chinese nationality who are above 22 years old, whether from state or privately funded schools, or English training centres and organisations.
