In his talk ‘From PhysiPaul Withey, Rolls-Royce Engineering Associate Fellow, through Fracture to Foundries’, Mr. Withey, who is also a Royal Academy of Engineering Visiting Professor in Innovation, discussed the unity of academia and research in industry and his global experiences.

Students at the materials science department of Beihang University, Beijing, benefited from his advice and guidance on starting out in the industry and on looking for international job opportunities. Key tips from the innovator included to never to be afraid of ‘getting it wrong’ and never to forget to question ‘How can I be innovative in what I am doing?’.
