21- 24 September 2015: Michael Dobson, Director of the Shakespeare Institute, University of Birmingham
With talks revolving around the question ‘Shakespeare: Monumental or Modern?’, Professor Dobson spoke to audiences in Beijing, Guangzhou and Nanjing about how Shakespeare's 400-year-old scripts have managed to remain simultaneously historical and contemporary. Audiences were taken on a journey of Shakespeare’s work on stage and on screen from Stratford-upon-Avon, the birthplace of Shakespeare, to Shanghai. By sharing insights gained from his life-long research into Shakespeare and translating and interpreting his plays for present-day performances and audiences, Professor Dobson illustrated how Shakespeare's originality and creativity continue to stimulate and inspire others to this day.
