Director South China and Head Higher Education, British Council China
Cathy He is Director South China, responsible for British Council operations in Guangdong, Hunan, Jiangxi, Fujian, Guangxi and Hainan province, and also leads higher education work nationally, facilitating partnerships between British and Chinese institutions.
With her expert knowledge of Chinese and UK education sectors, Cathy has forged extensive professional relationships with Chinese education authorities and wider industry stakeholders. She has a strong track record of developing sustainable and successful UK China higher education partnerships.
Since joining the British Council in 2001, Cathy has worked in international education, promoting cooperation between the UK and China through student and academic mobility, research collaboration, transnational education, capacity building and a range of joint initiatives. She has assisted UK institutions to create forward-looking China strategies, strengthening their China profile and expanding student recruitment.
Cathy has driven strategic collaboration between higher education sectors in the UK and China through ‘consortia and alliance’ models. Her work has boosted learning and training opportunities for students, academics and early career researchers. This has enabled them to exchange knowledge and ideas and enrich their academic and cultural experiences.
