Room 2 Manoeuvre presents Made in Macau a short documentary about a Scottish choreographer’s experience of working with a Macau based dance company over a course of 3 years. Artistic Director of Edinburgh based Room 2 Manoeuvre, Tony Mills, began a collaboration with Popeye Hong from The Dancers Studio Macau who both have a shared passion for the cross over between hip hop and contemporary dance. Tony and Popeye teamed up to give professional hip hop dancers in Macau the chance to explore new creative territory and participate in bold new dance works. This documentary captures excerpts from 3 dance pieces that were created over the course of 2017 – 2019, each with their own unique theme. Tony Mills talks about the challenges both he and local dancers faced while adapting to new working environments, different expectations and communicating without words. A story of growth from opposite ends of the world.

About Room 2 Manoeuvre

Room 2 Manoeuvre is an Edinburgh based dance company, resident at The Brunton and founded by Artistic Director, Tony Mills, in 2007. The company produces high quality work that entertains and challenge audiences. Often thematic in nature, the work is characterised with touches of humour, slick production and visceral choreography. With a foundation in hip hop dance technique, Room 2 Manoeuvres seamlessly blends contemporary dance and physical theatre genres into its vocabulary. The company has been a recipient of several grants from the national arts body, Creative Scotland, and has gone on to successfully present work around the UK, Europe, Asia and South America. Off the stage, Room 2 Manoeuvre is concerned with delivering dance education to both community and professional organisations and professional development opportunities for artists. The company is also involved in the production and programming for live theatre events within Scotland.
